Q1) Will you be creating a Mac version any time soon?
A) Yes, we will. The Mac version has been delayed, but it is still planned for release in the not too distant future. Sign up to our mailing list to be emailed when it is ready.

Q2) I'm inserting Rephrase into an audio channel, but I get no sound. What's going on?
A) Rephrase is not an insert effect, it's an instrument. To get started with Rephrase do the following:
  • Click on the load button in Rephrase, and select an audio file to import. After a quick import, you will see your audio in the blue screen in the centre of Rephrase.
  • Using your mouse, click and drag the export midi button into a midi channel in your host.
  • Make sure the midi channel is sending midi to Rephrase, then press play in your host.

  • Using this technique allows Rephrase to integrate tightly into your host. You can edit your Rephrase-midi tracks, just as any other midi tracks and directly change the audio. You can even copy and paste the midi clip to create variations and harmonies!

Q3) Why is the tempo different from the original when played back using Rephrase?
    A) Rephrase has a feature called tempo synchronisation.

When Rephrase loads in a phrase it detects the tempo (usually quite accurate, but does depend on source material). Then when you export the midi, it is exported at that tempo. This means that phrases at say 110bpm can be easily fit into a song at any tempo, say 130bpm. To make the phrase fit, Rephrase stretches the length of all notes. If you then change the tempo of your song in your host - again the phrase is 'stretched to fit'.

If Rephrase detected the tempo wrong, you can set it manually by just clicking on it and entering a new value. If the tempo in Rephrase is the same as in your host, there will be no stretching.

You can also read up more in the manual under the section tempo synchronisation.

Q4) How can I create harmonies?
    A) Rephrase is designed to let you create great sounding harmonies really easily.

Assuming you've already got Rephrase playing back, just drag the midi onto another channel, and edit the pitches to create your harmony. Rephrase accepts midi on all 16 midi channels.

Q5) Does Rephrase support stereo audio?
    A) Yes. Since version 1.2 Rephrase can import and output stereo audio.

    Q6) Are updates free?
    A) Minor updates such as version 1.2, 1.3 etc. are completely free to all Rephrase owners. Major version updates such as version 2.0 etc. will be available at a discount to owners of older versions.

Q7) As an owner of Rephrase, do I get discount on future products?
    A) Yes we will offer discount to existing Leapfrog Audio customers for future products.

Q8) How does Rephrase compare to the competition?
    A) Rephrase is feature packed, has great sound quality and is affordable.

Rephrase offers powerful integration into your host application, via midi. Everything is done from within your host, and it's very easy to change note timings and pitches. Change the tempo in your host, and Rephrase auto-stretches your audio to fit, with almost transparent results for smaller factors.

Rephrase also offers lots of ways to shape your sound - either subtly or radically depending on your preference. For example there are 4 controls for changing the timbre of the sound, manual vibrato, automatic pitch correction, an effects section and more.

Since version 1.3 of Rephrase we're even more pleased with our product, and how it can provide very high quality pitch correction/shifts, time stretching and creative editing.

Please feel free to try out our demo version.

Q9) Where can I buy Rephrase?
    A) Currently Rephrase is only available via our on-line shop, here on our website. Payments are processed by share-it, a respected payment processor with clients throughout the world. Payments are completely secure and confidential.

Q10) What is exactly is Rephrase?
    A) Rephrase was designed for use as a:
  • Phrase editor - take any loops you have and completely "rephrase" them.
  • Pitch corrector - Rephrase gives you complete control over the pitch track, and also has higher-level manipulation controls, such as the ability to add vibrato/tremolo and straighten out pitch in a note.
  • Synthesizer - since there are many sound shaping controls Rephrase could also be used in this fashion.

  • Q11) How good is Rephrase for pitch correction?
    A) Rephrase is great for pitch correction - this is in fact how most of our customers use Rephrase. The combination of powerful and easy to use manual or automatic pitch editing, together with very high quality formant preserving pitch shifting, make Rephrase ideal for pitch correction at any price. And Rephrase is affordable!
